One of the three best debuts of the UK indie rock scene that flourished at the middle of the decade. After the success of bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes in England, more and more young UK acts started picking up guitars and making their own buzzing rock sound, drawing inspiration from late '70s punk and early '80s new wave. Bloc Party was certainly one of the best. Read more about our 2005 album of the year here and you can also check out what the NME had to say here ("Silent Alarm" was also at the top of their list).
